NOTES
‘Jo Stafford Sings American Folk Songs’ is a remake of the 1948 / 1949 / 1950 album with the same name. Compared to the first version, four uptempo songs were added (the tracks with the banjo-guitar-bass accompaniment), and the hauntingly beautiful ballads ‘Shenandoah’ and ‘Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier’. Only ‘He’s Gone Away’ is missing – maybe because a remake of that track was already included in the album ‘Ballad of the Blues’ from 1959.
According to Jim Marshall’s Jo Stafford Discography, Capitol T 1653 was issued in February, 1962. Billboard magazine, however, included its review in the ‘Spotlight Albums of the Week’ section in the January 6, 1962 issue.
