NOTES
As far as I know, the singles from the ‘Hall of Fame’ series were not issued on 78 rpm.
Columbia Records announced the launch of this series in June 1954. An article under the heading ‘Columbia Readies
100 ‘Hall of Fame’ Series’ in Billboard magazine (‘New York, June 19’) explained that the series would ‘consist of pop, country, sacred and jazz sides previously issued on the label but not now available’. The first 100 singles in this new ‘standard series’ would be ‘available to dealers in September’.
Columbia 4-50039’s catalog number indicates that it was one of these first hundred records. This means it must have been issued in September, 1954.
