NOTES
According to an article in Billboard magazine’s October 7, 1957 issue, Columbia CL 1043 was issued in October, 1957: ‘Columbia Records this month ships the strongest mid-fall release in the label’s history, designed to stock dealers with powerful product in preparation for the Christmas buying season. (…) Pop highlights include (…) “Jo Stafford Sings Songs of Scotland,” with words by Robert Burns…’
According to Jim Marshall’s Jo Stafford Discography, the four tracks recorded in 1956 ('Comin' Through The Rye',
'Flow Gently, Sweet Afton', 'Annie Laurie', and 'Auld Lang Syne') were first issued in the United Kingdom, on the EP
‘Jo Stafford Sings Songs Of Scotland’, Philips BBE 12163. However, 45cat.com states that Philips BBE 12163 was released in June 1958 (http://www.45cat.com/artist/jo-stafford/uk). Whether or not this is correct – the 1956 recordings were new to American listeners when the album ‘Jo Stafford Sings Songs of Scotland’ was issued in October 1957.
